Something about a good cup of coffee…

I am actually not a major caffeine addict. In fact, I can barely finish 1 shot of espresso with some water. My husband jokes that I take 3-4 sips of iced coffee, max, a day. But there is just something about it.

The idea of holding a coffee.

The smell of a fresh brew.

The feeling of holding a warm mug or a slightly condensation covered, cold cup.

It is just a mood setter. A vibe. A feeling. And I just love it.

Why? Is it a bit wasteful to only drink some (well I actually do save it and it takes me a day or so to finish - but back to it being wasteful)? Is it essential?

Well, it works. So yes, it is important for me. What works? Well, I feel like I gained focus. I feel like I am ready to conquer. My senses wake up by the action of making a cup, smelling it and preparing it. I enjoy thinking about how to prepare it for the setting of the day. It has become an essential habit to make me successful.

The most fascinating part is I never appreciated why I appreciated coffee until recently. I was meeting a coaching client at a local coffee shop. I was offered the opportunity to use a real mug and I just said “why not!” As I was reviewing my notes, sipping my cappuccino with a dust of cinnamon, and it was a moment of reflection. “This feels great, but why?”

The large context is to slow down but this is an appreciation post of the small things. The encouragement to reflect on the things you do and why they help you (or perhaps hurt you) in your day. Knowing what and why you do things is an essential reflection to finding your winning head space.

So, here is a coffee cheers in hopes that you can find your good cups of coffee.
